OUR PHILOSOPHY
At maem, sustainability is more than a value—it’s our responsibility.
As a proud small Australian business, we are deeply committed to creating timeless womenswear that honours both people and planet.
Natural Fibres, Thoughtfully Chosen
We choose to work with natural fibres like silk for their beauty, durability, and lower environmental impact. Unlike synthetic materials, natural fibres are biodegradable, breathable, and kinder to your skin and the environment. Silk, in particular, offers a luxurious feel without compromising on sustainability. Our materials are carefully sourced to ensure they meet our standards for quality, longevity, and responsible production. We believe in a clothing industry where polyester is an absolute last resort and should only be used when there is no suitable alternative....at maem, we pride ourselves on using a variety of incredible natural fibres from GOTS certified Organic Cotton, TENCEL, Lyocell, Cupro & occasionally (& only when necessary) REPREVE, nylon made from recycled plastic bottles. We also source deadstock fabric from The Remnant Warehouse in Sydney and try to repurpose discarded fabric that would have otherwise gone to landfill.
Supporting Local & Consciously Made
At Maem Disko, we believe in investing in our own backyard. By partnering with Australian makers, patternmakers, and manufacturers, we’re able to keep our supply chain transparent and close to home. This not only supports local industry and skilled jobs, but also helps us minimise our carbon footprint through reduced transportation and tighter quality control.
Every piece is designed, sampled here in Australia—with care, intention, and respect for the process and the people behind it.
The majority of pieces are made here in Australia, when garments have been too complex or required a different skillset then available in our very small scale manufacturing industry in Australia, we have searched for the next best option that fits our standards for ethical production. We work with two factories, one in Europe and one in Indonesia, both of which are ethical family run, manufacturing businesses. One is an all female workplace which was founded to help support displaced women who lost stability during covid.

Designed for Longevity
We reject the fast fashion model and choose instead to create fewer, better pieces. Our designs are seasonless, versatile, and made to be worn for years to come. By prioritising quality over quantity, we aim to reduce waste and encourage a more conscious approach to style—one that celebrates thoughtful wardrobe building, not impulse trends.
Our Ongoing Journey
Sustainability is not a destination, but an evolving commitment. We're continually seeking ways to improve—from how we source materials to how we package and ship. As we grow, so will our efforts to tread more lightly and act more responsibly, always with transparency and integrity.
Thank you for supporting a slower, more sustainable future for fashion
